Towards the end of the 19th century, Japan first exhibited its wares at the World Exposition, captivating the minds of artists and high society in New York, Paris and London. The new wave of creativity and inspiration drawn from the exoticism of Japanese art and simple everyday objects resulted in Japonisme. “The Joy of Hospitality: Tea party à la Japonaise” explores Japan’s influence on Western society at this time through a range of beautiful items; including ceramics, silverware, glass, clothing, and accessories.
