Paris
Merci donates 100 per cent of its profits to charity.
Merci is a delight. Just to meander about in. There’s racks of the likes of Isabel Marant to flick through. Shirts from this great label called Forte Forte. A little table with a fur tippet, a wallet, a Cy Twombly book, a vase with a daisy in. All homey, like you might have strewn them there yourself. (You have perfect taste.) Upstairs there’s a table made from an ancient crosscut tree, set out with green glass tumblers, and two lumberjackly log stools. Crystal chandelier overhead: a kindly, quirky one that you want to abscond with. Downstairs is a trestle crammed with Japanese bowls. The colors are that seascape/eggshell spectrum that always grips you. Buy one. Then go eat cake. You will miss this place, later. There’s good, witty, style magic in play here. It’s friendly and inspiring.
