A few years ago I watched a beautiful film, Woodenhead, by a young New Zealand filmmaker, Florien Habicht. Woodenhead was a strange sort of a fairytale set in the swamps and forests of the far north of the land of the long white cloud. Not only was it shot in black and white and epically beautiful, it addressed some universal themes. Who hasn’t had a romance (or two) that took you somewhere swampier than Shrek’s love shack? And whose Prince Charming hasn’t had a head full of rocks (or wood) at some point?
