1950s wooden Scrabble broaches cost $20 from Hudson, 229 Carlisle St, Balaclava. Tel: 9525 8066. Made to order.
When I was young there was Uno, the Dukes of Hazard card game (which uncannily resembled Uno only with toothless hicks, hotpants and fat crime bosses decked out all in white), Monopoly and Scrabble. These last two gave rise to what I call “the Scrabble moment”. At that juncture in the game when it becomes all to clear that you are going to get royally whooped, you take the board and upend its ass (Scrabble was coincidentally invented by Alfred Butts) and hence end the game with the “Scrabble moment”. Also available is the “Monopoly moment”
