As a child pioneer of the lo-fi sound I admit I made home recordings of myself singing many a swamp-related tune. Notably ‘Rainbow Connection’ and a cracking rendition of the theme from Hammy Hamsters Riverbank Adventures (think real hamsters, boats, bathyspheres? … there you go!). Seeing this Akira top with its insect detail takes me right back to those seminal recordings and to the ridicule that followed with my brother’s discovery of the ‘master tapes’. I cannot help but think that had I had a top like this my life may have taken a different path.
