Things you’ve always wanted to know about Russian Nesting Dolls but were too afraid to ask:
1. In Russia, they’re known as Matryoshka Dolls – which comes from the popular female name Matryona – meaning mother.
2. Dolls usually come in sets of 3, 5, 7 & 10, although I once heard of a doll that came with 35 pieces. (That’s one big momma.)
3. They’re meant to symbolise good luck and peace in the family.
