One off Ephemera jewellery made from vintage lino $38 each from Husk 176 Collins Street Ph: 9663 0655.
Linoleum (or ‘lino’ as we I know it) was invented in England in 1863 by Frederick Walton and has been hanging around ever since. My Nana has it, my mum has it and now I have it. And it brings a tear to my eye to think of what ‘linos’ all over the world have had to witness – all those fluffy slippers, the odd valium, countless peltings of meat and three veg. Needless to say if my floor coverings could talk I’d be taking out a gag order. So it is nice to see there is a more glamourous life after the kitchen for these often maligned, often beautiful and gentle doormats of life – the linos – as wonderful one-off jewellery pieces.
