What do you think – individual or part of a subculture?
Australia day saw a very interesting debate about the formation of fashion trends – I must preface this with the fact that the conversation took place at A-typical hipster party in Collingwood, with an individual I would class as a hipster.
He stood opposite me with his cheap Monday jeans, white singlet, long shaggy hair, black hat, tattoos and wayfarers and insisted that trends are formed on the basis of people expressing their individuality with no external influences – my question is how do like minded individuals express their individuality in the same way on mass without any external influences what so ever?
