The Bread and Butter Letter 66 New North Road, Eden Terrace, Auckland, 1021.
Outraged by the markup on vintage around town, Sarah Firmston, 24, bought a space to showcase her own thriftly finds at sweet low prices and nestle among them crafty smallgoods from local talents. So young to be so philanthropic, her generous spirit found a partner in 21 year old Rose Howcroft, now co-owner of “The Bread and Butter Letter”, which opened just last month. Their pretty beacon of a storefront on a sooty byway lightens the heart, even in these saddest of weeks. It’s just so lovely to come across such enthusiastic conviction. Sincerely good treasures fill this cosy den. I spied a drape-waisted black cocktail dress strewn with petals at the shoulder and the most comely of purses. The prices: a steal? no, they’re a gift.
