Mr James Dobson is a stalwart champion of the avant garde. He is a fearless merchant, and also a fashion designer of renown, so there’s power in his conviction. He co-owns a lovely light-filled shop in St Kevin’s Arcade that has the gravitas of a gallery, and big reach for a space so small. The impressive list of designers he stocks reads like an honour-roll of fashion’s free-thinkers, tinkering away in garrets all over the planet from Finland to Buenos Aires, from Berlin to Auckland, resolving beautiful cloth and leather, and smithing metal with wit and cleverness. It’s a nifty mix of product. James’ own taste is for the intellectual monochrome, whereas there’s some whimsy at work in his co-buyer Vicky Chan’s selections. Children of Vision is the perfect name for their store.
